THE AMERICANA ROOTS MUSIC FESTIVAL was originally conceived by its producers with the mission of helping both the volunteer FIRE DEPARTMENTS and RESCUE SQUADS in the tri-state area surrounding Matamoras, Pennsylvania. These will include, but not be exclusive to, MILFORD, WESTFALL and MATAMORAS in PENNSYLVANIA, PORT JERVIS, NY and MONTAGUE, NEW JERSEY. Joe Barbagallo, co-producer of the festival said, “These wonderful volunteer organizations are hurting for donations, especially Montague, New Jersey, Milford, Westfall and Matamoras in Pennsylvania and Port Jervis, New York. They need a helping hand, and this is a great opportunity for people to have an unforgettable weekend and raise money at the same time. These guys are always there when we need them. This is a fantastic cause.”

The MISSION of THE WOUNDED WARRIOR PROJECT is to honor and empower wounded warriors. Their purpose lies in broadening awareness and enlisting the public’s aid for the needs of severely injured service men and women, helping severely injured service members aid and assist each other and to provide unique, direct programs and services to meet their needs. The Wounded Warrior Project was founded on the principle that veterans are our nation's greatest citizens. The WWP seeks to assist those men and women of our armed forces who have been severely injured during the conflicts in Iraq, Afghanistan, and other locations around the world. Many of the injuries are traumatic amputations, gunshot wounds, burns and blast injuries that will retire these brave warriors from military service. From the battlefield to their bedside, WWP is there to meet the needs of our wounded heroes. THE WOUNDED WARRIOR PROJECT is a nonprofit organization.

This organization holds a special place for both the co-producer of the festival, Don Oriolo and performer, Gary Ray Kin. Don wrote a song for THE WOUNDED WARRIOR PROJECT and produced the recording of the song as sung by Gary Ray Kin, who will perform the song at the opening ceremonies of the festival on July 4th.

James Montgomery walked the streets for several nights before he found the ailing musician living in an alley. The aging bluesman would return to his makeshift “home” after gigs, for which he was not even paid enough to get an apartment, let alone proper medical care. Within a week, Montgomery, through his DEVI BLUE FOUNDATION, had the man placed in an eldercare facility where he received the medical care he needed. Another musician received aqua therapy treatment for tendonitis, while others have had minor eye surgery, cardiac testing and treatments of everything from bipolar disorder to carpel-tunnel syndrome to drug dependency.

DEVI is a Sanskrit word meaning goddess or caregiver. Montgomery, who besides being a New England harmonica legend, tries to lead a kind and caring life. He founded THE DEVI BLUE FOUNDATION to provide money for much-needed medical care to aging or ill blues musicians several years ago after attending a meeting of the New England Blues Society, of which he is now the president. Society members had the initial idea of getting free healthcare to sick musicians and the plan has emerged as a nonprofit foundation headed by Montgomery. “At the time, they were trying something new to actually make a difference in the lives of musicians,” he said. “It first started when doctors, nurses, and other medical people would come up to me at gigs, and asked if they could help these guys."

Now, the foundation has grown to a network of clinics, medical practitioners, and other facilities to which musicians are referred. And, amazingly, rather than a waiting list of patients, there is a waiting list of doctors to see the musicians! “A plus is that our people are always overseen by one of our doctors, even if they are sent to the Veteran’s Administration."

THE PIKE COUNTY HUMANE SOCIETY is a non-profit charity organization located in Shohola, Pennsylvania. They are doing some very good work and battling to make a difference despite limited funds. They follow the NO KILL CONFERENCE guidelines and, if an animal's health allows, they strive to find it a new adoptive family. They have a very small staff and welcome both donations and volunteers.
